SAIS EUROPE

CELEBRATING 65 YEARS

On 22 February 1955,
with four professors, ten students, and borrowed classrooms, Professor C. Grove Haines began to implement his vision for a post-war transatlantic dialogue to support the creation of peaceful and prosperous post-war order by founding the Bologna Center. The world has changed greatly since then; its societies, politics, and economics have never been so closely intermeshed and interdependent. But the SAIS mission remains the same. And SAIS is now an integral part of a world-class university, strategically leveraging campuses on three continents and boasting an exceptional faculty, committed staff, and talented student body. Today, a SAIS education has never been more relevant and the SAIS Europe vision, to be the preeminent policy-focused, professional international relations graduate school in Europe and in the Mediterranean, and the regional center for Johns Hopkins University, continues unaltered.

The year 2020 constitutes a salient milestone for our school, our community, and our alumni.

As the world continues to respond to the global pandemic, SAIS and Johns Hopkins University have been guided by our commitment to the safety and security of our community, our constituents, and our visitors. Concerning the ongoing situation in Bologna and at SAIS Europe, and the JHU decision to suspend all in-person classes and large-scale activities, we have also made the difficult, but prudent decision to transform many of our 65th Anniversary events intro Virtual Events.

Thank you to each and every one of the 600 alumni and guests from more than 50 countries who connected to the first virtual SAIS Alumni Weekend celebrating the 65th anniversary of SAIS Europe. Even from a distance we felt your passion snd enthusiastic engagement. Thank you for joining us, for being a part of this community, and contributing to our many efforts in the myriad ways that you do. Through your efforts as alumni, we are ensuring that SAIS Europe will continue to flourish and serve generations of students to come.
